Year 2 Science Week
Dinner Time!
Year Two have been having great fun this week in honour of Science Week. We have taken the national theme of ‘Time’ and renamed it, ‘Dinner Time!’
We started the week by learning about animal’s diets and learning scientific terms such as, carnivore, herbivore and omnivore. We have looked at what animals eat and how their habitats support that. We then went on to learn what a food chain is and had great fun making paper chains to show different food chains for our classroom display board.
We have supported this learning in English lessons, learning about non-fiction texts and how they help us to learn and provide information. We have carried out lots of reading this week about Penguins, ready to write our own information text. We will be able to use some of our scientific knowledge to help us with our writing next week.
We then moved onto what humans like to eat and what makes a balanced diet. The class had great fun investigating the impact of exercise on the body. Of course, we had to do lots of activities to see what happens to your heart rate and which exercise increases heart rate the most.
We finished the week with lessons about hygiene, in particular, how to look after our teeth and the effects of food on our teeth if we do not brush them! A valuable lesson. What a busy yet fun week we have had!
